“Legal Training: Uniquely Tailored for Decision Makers” – Alex Marc

lidership land 0815

We continue the series of interviews, in which we set out to learn more about our collaborators, with a professional in his main field of activity, the lawyer Alex Marc. This beginning of the year finds him firmly anchored with intentions and concrete plans in Leadership Land, our goals and visions being interconnected.

B.S.: – Hi Alex, for a start, I would like you to tell me something about yourself, what hobbies you have and how you spend your free time when you have it.

A.M.: – Hi, something about me then. If we refer to Dante’s famous verse, “Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita”, I am easily past that moment, I am 43 years old, I am a lawyer, married, have two daughters, I don’t have much free time. I am mainly involved in law, and secondarily in the Leadership Land projects. On top of that, a real estate project has successfully taken up almost all the remaining free time. My main hobby is reading, although I currently do not practice it at the level of desire, but rather at the level of time available. My project regarding my hobby is to reduce the time wasted on non-essential things to have enough time for readings.

B.S.: – How nice! And here we find out new things about you by asking you questions outside your main sphere of concern. In fact, this was the purpose of my question.

A.M.: – (smiles modestly)

B.S.: – Why should every leader have basic legal knowledge?

A.M.: – Almost every choice or action, regardless of the person making it, has a legal relevance. It can be translated into a legal relationship and can generate legal effects. Understanding the consequences and legal relationships in immediate reality or in daily activities is a minimum requirement that any person should meet. Even more so for a leader, whose choices have consequences not only for themselves, but for the entire team. Having a basic understanding of legal concepts helps and simplifies this reporting.

B.S.: – How was the year 2023 for you?

A.M.: – In the past year, I had the opportunity to deliver a training course as a trainer, within the Leadership Land projects, to a first client. This course was divided into two modules, which I enjoyed because they forced me to step out of the comfortable legal zone I was used to and gave me a strong impetus to shape the next courses and, last but not least, assured me that I am on the right track.

B.S.: – What is the theme of this course?

A.M.: – Although not exclusively, it is mainly aimed at the legal part of a company and helps to bring them closer to the contractual matter. It is more addressed to the legal department, it’s a bit more niche. Although I would have liked to get involved in the other programs that Cosmin manages within Leadership Land, unfortunately, time was a pretty strong constraint. Because what Leadership Land does and the level at which it is done, requires a few days of preparation and delivery, which my profession as a lawyer and the rest of the program does not allow me at the moment.

B.S.: – Through your experience, how do you evaluate the progress of the participants during and at the end of the leadership program?

A.M.: – The course I delivered had fewer than ten participants, so I had the opportunity to see them from the beginning to the end and to have a more direct and closer contact with them. Being not many, I had time to talk extensively with each of them. The feedback I received from them was good, it was encouraging for me, they were really interested. Due to my profession, I know what it means to speak to someone who is looking through you, looking out the window, or counting the minutes until a lecture ends, but it seemed to me that was not the case in this course. There was an interaction from which they also came out more enriched, and I had to learn. It was a lesson for me as a way of relating to a different type of audience, and that was beneficial for me both in my profession within the company I work for and personally, in my relationships with friends, acquaintances, and family.

B.S.: – In what ways do you think the program you support stands out distinctively compared to other programs currently available on the market?

A.M.: – At the level of training in the legal field, it is different from everything else on the market at the moment because it combines everything essential in transmitting basic legal information with the teaching method found in Leadership Land courses, which is a much more intuitive, direct, and structural way, it is information that you discover in a more Socratic way. In fact, you arrive at the answer yourself by learning the right questions to ask. Such a presentation on the market, at least in the combination of the legal field with the training field, does not exist at the moment, to my knowledge.

B.S.: – Very interesting, thank you very much for the time and I look forward to participating in one of the courses you deliver this year.

A.M.: – With pleasure.
